Hugh Ferguson’s sea-going career began as an engineer with British India/P&O, then with Globtik Tankers, leading to the rank of Chief Engineer with Northern Marine, serving on Stena vessels from 1984. From 1986 his career continued ashore from an initial appointment as Superintendent, then Ship Manager, Technical Manager, Technical Director and General Manager/Director until he was appointed as Managing Director on 1st January 2010.
General Manager / Director
Philip Fullerton joined NMM in 1995 at the time of the StenTex transition between Stena and Texaco after completing an Engineering Cadetship with Texaco Overseas Tankships Limited. He progressed through the sailing ranks from Fourth Engineer to Chief Engineer within the Northern Marine fleet, sailing on various types of tankers. He joined the office staff as Superintendent in 2002 initially working within the tanker ship groups, then progressed to Senior Superintendent and Technical Manager with involvement in all technical issues with the fleet, projects and newbuilding activities. In 2008 he became Technical Director, until appointed General Manager / Director in 2012.
Director of Ship Management
John Harding is a Master Mariner who went to sea at the age of 16 and spent 19 years sailing on all sizes of tankers until 1989, when he left to work in the Middle East as a Marine and Cargo Surveyor and was promoted to Manager with the responsibility to set up the Caleb Brett office in Kuwait, following liberation. He joined Northern Marine in 1994 as Marine Superintendent being promoted to Ship Manager, Fleet Manager, Operations Director and in 2012 Director of Ship Management.
Dhananjay Swadi is a Master Mariner who during 14 years at sea served in various deck officer ranks up to Chief Officer on LPG, container and OBO vessels. On coming ashore completed a Master’s degree in Marine Policy from Cardiff Business School and joined Glasgow College of Nautical Studies in 2003 as lecturer in nautical studies and short courses. He was promoted to senior lecturer and MCA exams officer for GCNS in 2005. In 2006 he joined Northern Marine Management as Recruitment and Training Manager, was appointed Global Manning Manager for oil major client in 2008 and appointed Personnel Director in September 2011.
Kevin Slade completed his cadetship with Trident Tankers Ltd, then served in roles from Third Officer to Chief Officer with The Geest Line. In 1979 he was appointed Master with Uiterwyk Lines, serving on general cargo and refrigerated vessels. He joined Sea Containers in 1983, serving in command on containerships before taking up shore appointment in 1988 as Marine Manager. In 1991 appointed Human Resources Manager with Stena Line (UK). In 1998 he joined Northern Marine as Personnel Manager. He was Personnel Director from 2003 until being appointed Director in 2011. He is currently a member of MNTB Board.
Finance Director / Company Secretary
Jackie Tierney joined Northern Marine in 1986 as a member of the Finance Department. She achieved ACMA qualification whilst progressing to a senior level within the department and was appointed Financial Director in 2005. Currently she is also a Director of the Scottish Shipping Benevolent Fund.
Murdoch MacDonald served as Cadet and Deck Officer with Denholm Ship Management prior to spending three years ashore in the Operations Group. He joined NMM in 1983 and served in a number of positions in the Operations Department, including Ship Manager. In 1999 he was appointed Commercial Manager in response to the Company's expanding activities and became Commercial Director in 2008.
Marine Compliance Director
Kenneth McConnell joined Northern Marine in 1995 with 21 years sea-going experience on many different vessel types, including three years command experience with Texaco on oil tankers. Before being appointed as Director, Kenneth held various positions including Superintendent, Ship Manager, Operations Manager, Global Manning Manager for Chevron Fleet, and President of NMM USA LLC.
